Labour celebrates Election Victories.

Angela Eagle praised her hard working team of volunteers shortly after being re-elected as Wallasey MP in the General Election.

Speaking to the Wirral Globe Angela said "My majority has remained pretty similar on an increased turn-out, despite the background, with what's going on with swings to the Conservatives. So, I'm very, very pleased indeed.

"It's a tribute to the commitment of my team here and the work that's been done by volunteers, but also I think it demonstrates that people in Wallasey are worried about the prospect of losing much-loved public services like SureStart."

"They're worried about the prospect of having to pay for nursery care and worried about what might be the future support for our pensioners if we have a Government that decides that the only way out of our economic difficulty is to slash and burn public expenditure.

Angela was re-elected with 21,578 votes and a majority of 8,507.

The local elections also saw gains for the Labour Party. In New Brighton Pat Glasman beat sitting Councillor Bill Duffy and In Liscard Labour delivered the biggest upset to the Tories by overturning a massive majority to beat the sitting Tory Councillor and Parliamentary candidate Leah Fraser.

Adrian Jones, former Mayor of Wirral and local Seacombe champion, was re-elected with a decisive majority and Anne McArdle is the new Councillor for Leasowe and Moreton East replacing Cllr Iris Coates who stood down at this election.
