Darren Dodd launches campaign to keep swimming free

swimming

Liscard Councillor Darren Dodd today launched a Wirral wide campaign to keep swimming free in the Borough after David Cameron scrapped the scheme earlier this month. Swimming has been free for Under 16s and Over 60s since March 2009 as part of a bid to get 2 million people more active more often. Wirral residents took advantage of nearly 50,000 free swims in the first three months alone - making Wirral one of the most used schemes in the country.

Tory Council Leader Jeff Green announced on Friday that free swimming would continue in the Borough - much to the delight of the thousands of people who take advantage of the scheme. On closer inspection it appears that the Tory Leader is not being straight with the people of Wirral and he has actually only delayed making a decison on the future of free swimming until September 3rd.

Liscard Councillor Darren Dodd said 'I have today launched a campaign to keep Swimming free on Wirral and I have set up an online petition. We need to keep the pressure on the ConDem Council to keep swimming free for the thousands of people who use it!'
